Carron Lee

Do not give up! Be persistent in achieving your goals!

What is your philosophy as a mum?

A dedicated mother, who provides good shelter for my family with care and love.

What is your current profession?

I am a Business Development Manager in a MNC.

What is your passion?ffa14c9be925f7952f56d81888816eee

I love to cook for my family during my free time. Hearing them exclaimed, ‘Wah! Yummy!’ and seeing the expression on their faces whenever my food tantalises their taste buds are just priceless!

I love blogging as well and I am passionate about all things pests. Of late, I have also started a private journal and some blogs on business writing.

What is your inspiration and how you started your profession/blog?

I started blogging about pests a few years ago. With 10 years of working experience under my belt in the pest control industry, I wanted to share the knowledge that I gained with friends and anyone close to me.

What is your profession / blog about?

During the early stages of my career, I was more involved in the technical aspect of the pest control industry. I would conduct inspections and training and provide specialist recommendations to customers. I rarely dabbled in business development.

Having learnt so much throughout the years, it comes naturally to me to blog about pests. I write mostly about technical information on how to get rid of pests.

What makes your profession / blog unique?

Pest Management is very niche in nature. There is hardly anyone writing about pests in the blogosphere.

How do you balance being a mother and running your own business/career?

Time management is key. I won’t say that I manage my time perfectly but I am trying my very best.

During the day, I will try to focus on my work completely. Once home, I will give all my time to my family. If I need to pull an all-nighter, I will ensure that the kids are in bed before I sneak out to do my paper work.

Weekend is definitely reserved for ‘ME’ time; I will go out with my family and catch up with friends.

Vacation is a must! I will arrange and plan for getaways every year, be it locally or abroad with those dear to me. It certainly feels great being among different company, so I make time for a holiday with different people every quarter.

Support from spouse  is equally important too. My husband understands what my ambitions are and gives me his fullest support. Without him, it will be difficult for me to achieve work-life balance. Recently, I have decided to pursue MBA and I hope he will give me 100% support on this.

What is your advice or sharing you have for other mums who think of setting up their own small business?

Go for it, chase your dreams! You may think of quitting your 9-to-5 job once you are a mum but do not let your dreams die. All you need is proper planning. It is possible to have your own career, while raising a family.

Never Try, Never Know

What is your philosophy as a mum?

Untitled

  1. Have enough coffee
  2. Get enough of ‘me’ time.
  3. Communicate, listen, ask…never assume anything

What is your current profession?

  1. I owned a PR Firm called EA Creative Media Relation and I’m a PR Advisor.
  2. I’m also a freelance writer for few digital media and one with a bi-weekly newspaper, however I do not own any of these digital channels and newspaper. In the meantime, down the pipeline, I’m in a midst of planning a ‘platform’ for entrepreneurs as well, however will keep you guys updated once it’s ready. Of course, not forgetting that I’m a mother, daughter, sister, wife, and a daughter in law!

What is your passion?

I love to write, which I have turn it into my business. Other than that, I loved to draw, reading European history while enjoying a cup of great coffee.

What is your inspiration and how you started your profession/blog?

I have always wanted to do something on my own but just could not find out what I’m good at. Finally, my ex-manager told me that I was capable in PR, hence the reason why I jump into that industry. Sometime, it takes a 3rd party to ‘tell’ you things as you yourself cannot see or notice it.

In PR, you are not a PR person if you can’t write, and I have no confidence in myself previously because I was told that my writing was horrible! I wrote for my clients: articles, press releases, company profiles, etc as I could not afford to hire a freelancer or writer since my company is just a new start-up. Luckily I did have someone who helps me along the way, and slowly I managed to gain my confidence in writing. You just have to keep on moving and learn from your experience and mistakes.

I started to look for freelance writing jobs as to improve my writing skills, keeping myself busy during down-time and ‘enhance’ my profile.

What is your profession / blog about?

  1. EA Creative Media Relation is a public relation (PR) or media relation company. We connect the media (magazines, newspaper and digital channels) with our clients (by invitation) for press conferences/media launches and by creating awareness (delivering press releases). We also customize content according to our client’s company, background and their target audiences. Lastly, we give consultation to our clients on PR, marketing and branding related matters.
  2. Freelance writer – I’ve been writing for few online websites for the past year focusing on: bridal, lifestyle, beauty, parenting, cars, motorbikes and pets.
  3. Soon to come – I have another few more venture tuck under my plans which I may share or announce in later stage.

What makes your profession / blog unique?

  1. EA Creative Media Relation – We make sure that our clients’ gets the awareness that they deserves through customised content, right media channels and reaching their (right) targeted audiences.
  2. Freelance writing – focusing on lifestyle topics
  3. Soon-to-come, will update accordingly

How do you balance being a mother and running your own business/career?

It takes a lot of patience, discipline and perseverance! Prepare a to-do-list and prioritized what is important. Set a goal for yourself and take small steps so you may achieve them like: spending quality time with your family – 2 hours a day, ‘Me’ time – doing what you like: reading, relaxing, going out for coffee or tea, or just doing nothing for 1 hour a day. Once you have a schedule, it’s easier for you to refer back and see what you have achieved so far, and plan ahead on what needs to be done.

It’s a sacrifice that you have to make to achieve your career and business goals. But you can always find a way to compliment back via activities that you may do together such as going to the park, enjoying ice-cream or a meal, watch movie, drawing or just chatting! However, try to stay away from digital gadgets during these activities.

What is your advice or sharing you have for other mums who think of setting up their own small business?

If you have decided on what you wanted to do, make sure you:

  1. Prepare a marketing and business plan – you need a plan to kick start a project. From the plan, then you may know your budget, what needs to be done, how to get things done and when it can be done.
  2. Survey the industry – check on the competitors to see how is the market
  3. Talk to experts such as entrepreneurs or like-minded people – listen to these people on how they succeed in their businesses, how many times they fail, what keep them motivated to move on.
  4. Do NOT be afraid of failure(s) – if you never try, you will never know! Success will never come if you don’t ‘fail’. If you have tried, and yet things are not what you’ve expected, take it as an experience and learn from it!
  5. Stop thinking and just take the ‘plunge’ (if you have decided) – the more you think, the higher the chances that you will never start.

Is there an evergreen niche?

2015 had come and gone, giving way to another new year. As we greet and welcome 2016, we are hopeful that the year ahead will bring great success to us mumpreneurs!

For mums who are toying with the idea of setting up your own online business but are plagued by 1,001 questions, vary no more and proceed full speed ahead! Let not your worries hold you back because this is perfectly normal as one embarks on changes and new situations. Cast your doubts away because CMC has got you covered from considering your 5Ds, how to build your website and start selling, how to find a niche, etc.

If you still need that extra push, let me shed some light on how huge the virtual market is out there and the endless possibilities that you can potentially create for yourself. It does not matter what you choose to sell because there will be buyers available in any corner of the world. The key to success is the ability to reach your target audience and to offer what they are looking for.

Is there any evergreen niches?

A niche that is evergreen is always high in demand and stable. Though saturated, it is and will always remain current and popular for years to come. Here are examples of evergreen niches in the market that mumpreneurs can explore:

  1. Weight lossbelly-2354_640

All of us have heard about inner beauty shines and outer beauty attracts. Taking care of how we look is no longer deemed as vain because appearance does matter to everyone. Years and decades passed and weight related topics are still relevant today because people are actively seeking for solutions and tips to shed some extra pounds. This niche will not fade and we will continue to see an upward trend as new diets and weight loss products are being introduced in the market.

  1. Beauty, anti-aging and health

woman-804068_640

This is definitely an evergreen niche as more and more people become concerned and conscious of their diet due to growing awareness and importance placed on maintaining a good health. As well, everyone wishes to look younger than their real age and wants to stay beautiful and youthful for as long as they possibly can. Products and ‘know-how’ associated with health and beauty in the market today are not limited to over-the–counter, therefore the target audience for this niche is huge.

It is rather unfortunate that most career mums are unable to devote sufficient time to maintain their blog or website due to family and work commitments. Blogging and content writing has now become a big challenge. Having said this, your blog or website is your ‘baby’ too, which needs your undivided attention to ‘grow’ and ‘flourish’. So, is there an alternative that allows you to have a virtual business, minus the effort to blog or write content? (Although content writing is still considered the best approach, in my opinion.)

For the benefit of sharing, there is a US based MLM company named Jeunesses, which sells health and beauty products that are capable of changing the lives of people around the world. Jeunesses is the only MLM company that uses e-commerce platform to promote its products, enabling its business partners to have a wider reach of audience. In summary, it works just like any other affiliate marketing. You generate sales and receive commission in return, without the need to hold any stocks.

Do not be mistaken that I am being hard selling here, my intention is purely to share. After signing up as a member and paying a minimal fee, you will have a URL of your own and thereafter, you can start promoting its products using your URL. You can refer to my URL www.tracy05.jeunessemy.com for further details. I would personally recommend that you give their flagship products a try and see the changes for yourself before selling, being a living testimonial of the products that you sell is the most convincing way to gain business. You can drop me a line and I am willing to share more with you.

  1. Ways to earn more money

cash-1169650_640

Judging from the innumerable quotes and sayings about money, it is clear to us that money is an essential need for everyone. Nobody in their right mind would refuse a good piece of advice on how to make wealth grow. If you have great money-making ideas to share, people will give you their time and attention to learn more from you. This is how you can build your audience and mailing list.

Why are we going online?

Even a regular activity such as shopping is shifting towards an electronically driven landscape as people find it more convenient to shop for their daily needs online at the comfort of their homes. This is in contrast to a stressful shopping experience at the departmental store; from battling high traffic, to the impossible task of locating a parking spot and getting stuck at the payment counter due to long queues (and quite possibly, spending more than required).

Online / virtual shopping provides more flexibility as shoppers can make purchases in any location of the world and at any time they prefer; this spells good news to us mumpreneurs as we can create far reaching opportunities for ourselves. According to statistics published by Center for Retail Research, the number of online shoppers is gradually increasing and this trend is set to continue.

Be realistic and have a plan B for yourself

As we brace ourselves for the inevitable, why not have a back-up plan in place to supplement the funding of our children’s education, household expenses, retirement, etc.? It is not uncommon to read and hear about companies undergoing restructuring or downsizing exercise and reducing headcount due to the global economic decline. The risk of being unemployed, coupled with a sense of insecurity is very real. Having your own virtual business can help you to sustain even if you have been laid off.

The cost to set up a virtual business is very minimal. Once you get it started, it takes commitment, determination, passion and time to keep the ball rolling.

Action time!!

It is futile if all you do is read and no action is taken. Your dream will only continue to be a dream. Stop giving yourself excuses such as lack of support, don’t know how and where to start, short of time and the list goes on.

CMC is here with you, every step of the way. Do drop us a line or email us at support@careermumsclub.com and we are more than happy to fulfill your dream. Together with your dedication and tenacity, let’s make this year a fruitful one! Cheers!

Choosing Niche Market

Finding A Niche

Niche can be explained as pertaining to or intended for a market; having specific appeal.

Why is it important?

This is a very commonly asked question whenever people are planning on to start their own business, be it online or offline.

Many people find choosing a niche market difficult. Therefore, they tend to sell everything under one roof and wish that somehow they can make some money along the way. In the long run, their business will only suffer due to the inability of building a strong brand and strategically positioning itself in the market, hence leading to loss of identity.

My experience

In my effort to find the perfect niche, I’d done extensive research and findings. Truth be told, there is no perfect niche in the market. Please, do not invest any effort or your precious time trying to find one as this will not happen.

Do not confuse yourself by making it too complicated when you are trying to discover a niche. I realized that a lot of career mums, who are potential mumpreneurs have taken a step back due to this reason. They are inundated with tonnes of questions already; from how to set up their business to what to market, which audience/customers to target and so on. Sad to say, all these concerns (coupled with the task of figuring out a niche) have hindered them to further pursue their dream to become work-from-home mums.

How to find a niche?

Now that we have known the importance of a niche, the one question that we have all been wanting to ask is: how to find a niche?

Simply put, think of a niche as just a ‘group of people’.

sailors-903033_6401

Next, choose a direction that you wish to focus on and attempt to be as specific as you possibly can.

You may want to share, say, about music. This however, covers a large and wide scope of subject or area. Narrow it down to:

  • How to choose a suitable piano for kids? [Still too broad]
  • How to choose a suitable piano for kids aged 4 to 10? [You will soon discover that there is indeed a group of people looking for a piano for kids ranging from ages 4 to 10]

There you go, bravo! You have found yourself a niche!

Summary

No niche is too competitive.

In fact, almost any or everything is capable of being a niche as there are MILLIONS of people out there, who are searching for it in the market. A niche can be a precise field, where you offer your assistance or advice on how to solve a ‘problem’.

Feel free to go through this article that I will be sharing below, I find it useful and it has helped me to find my niche.

READ THIS!

Once you are able to identify a ‘group of people’ who will be interested in your products, you can easily make a conversion.

Please give me your comments and feedback and I am ready to share more with you.

Small Business Success Secrets

In recent years we’ve seen a HUGE increase in the number of small businesses owned by women. Women everywhere deserve a big pat on the back for this amazing accomplishment. But as is always the case for small business owners, there is still a lot of work to be done. The one thing your small business MUST have is a website. Sure, ten years ago having a site was an option many small businesses could do without. But that is no longer the case. Here’s why:

Increased consumers awareness and branding

These day consumers and business leaders are more likely to use search engines than the Yellow Pages. They’ll type the name of your town and your type of business into Google and start their research from there.

Wider business reached out

A website lets you put as MUCH information as you want in a public forum. You no longer have to pay thousands for a big newspaper ad just to let customers know about your prices, new services, or show photos of what you do. office-625892Now you can keep all that information available on your web site 24/7 at little or no cost.

Better customers engagement

You know as well as I do that most customers are a little shy about asking questions. Often they don’t even want you to know they’re interested until AFTER they have learned more about your product, service, or idea. A website allows that vast number of potential customers to privately and anonymously read all about your business. Then, when they’re ready to buy, they’ll come forward with their questions and orders. This is a MUCH more efficient way to do business, which leads to my next point.

Wider target audience

Web based business operations can be EXTREMELY EFFICIENT. Customers often prefer convenient email over phone or in-person visits. rain-453172_640Email encourages customers to organize their ideas, contacting you when they know what they want and are ready to act. You’ll find your website generates many more customers and the customers you get are better organized.

Finally, women love to buy from women-owned businesses. Women, as a group, tend to be less compulsive shopper than men. While a large segment of men will buy an item on impulse, the vast majority of women prefer to learn about your product or service, getting all the details they can before placing an order. Websites are perfect for presenting a lot of information at very little cost.

Make Money at Home Online

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a revenue sharing partnership between a web merchant and one or more affiliates. The affiliate is paid a commission for referring clicks, leads or most often sales to the merchant. An affiliate’s advantage is that he can make money in a business where he doesn’t have the upfront costs of creating his own product, and he doesn’t have to worry about e-commerce, bookkeeping, or even customer support for it is the merchant’s responsibility.

There are HUGE benefits to promote an affiliate program with your own home based internet business. Let’s look at 15 of the best reasons to join affiliate programs.

  1. No Production Costs

The cost to develop and produce a new product is prohibitive for almost anyone who wants to start a home-based business. With affiliate programs, production costs aren’t an issue. The product has been developed and proven – all on the merchant’s nickel.

  1. Low set up cost

Compared with building a brick and mortar store, starting a home-based Internet business is relatively cheap. You probably already have a desk, Internet-connected computer and word-processing software, which is all the equipment you may need to start making easy money from an affiliate programs.

  1. No Fees or Licenses

The biggest difference is that the distributor must often pay for a license to distribute products within a limited geographic region. Affiliate programs, on the other hand, are usually free to join, and geographic market reach is limited only by the affiliate’s ability to promote his website.

  1. Sell Almost Anything

There are thousands and thousands of affiliate programs selling every product under the sun. That makes it easy to find products related to your current or planned web site.

  1. No Sales Experience Required

When I started my affiliate business, I had absolutely no sales experience. That wasn’t a problem, however. The companies I affiliated with provided excellent marketing material. Using their sales copy, I was able to get my first affiliate site up in less than a day.

  1. No Employees

Employee salaries are the biggest business expense. Although you may need or want someone to work for you on occasion, you’ll never have to worry about hiring full or part-time employees while working as an affiliate marketer. When you have a project you want to hire out, it is easy to find specialists in every computer-related field who can work for you from the comfort of their own homes. You pay only for the project, and never have to worry about ongoing employee related benefits and deductions.

  1. No Merchant Accounts

Setting up a merchant account is time-consuming and costly. However, affiliate marketers don’t need merchant account. Merchants bear all the costs for payment processing. As an affiliate, you’ll never lose sleep over charge backs, fraud or losing your merchant account.

  1. No Inventories

As an affiliate marketer, you can sell large items without storage concerns, even if you live in a small one-bedroom apartment.

  1. No order processing fees

Forget the problems associated with collecting and storing names, addresses, credit card numbers, etc. The merchant does all that!

  1. No shipping fees

The cost and hassle to prepare and ship products to customers worldwide could be staggering. Affiliates never have to worry about packaging supplies or postal rates.

  1. No Customer Service needed

Do you hate the prospect of dealing with nasty people or customer complaints? Don’t worry about it! The merchant handle it for you.

  1. Make Money While You Sleep

What other business allows you as a sole proprietor to keep your doors open and keep making money even when you take breaks or after you go home for the night?

  1. Worldwide Marketplace

The Internet is the world’s largest marketplace. You can drive more visitors to your online store in a day, than a small-town merchant will see in his or her brick and mortar business in a year.

  1. Minimal Risks

The product you chose isn’t making money? Dump it. Take down your links and promote another! It’s that easy. There are no long-term contracts binding you to products that don’t sell.

  1. High Income Potential

If you have a job, your salary or hourly wage is probably pre-determined. Maybe there’s not much, other than working overtime, that you can do to increase your income. With your own affiliate business on the internet your income potential is limited only by your desire, effort and imagination. No other business is so inexpensive to start yet offers such high profit potential without investing years of labor and enable you to work from Almost Anywhere in the World!

So, do you have what it takes to be an affiliate marketer? Before you begin your venture into affiliate marketing, you need to decide first which area interest you. What products do you know the most and which products you could do the best job of selling? Once you discover your specialty, perseverance, patience, determination comes next. These are the qualities you should possessed to be a good affiliate marketer.

There are too many online business prospectors lose out because they become impatient. You also have to know what your strengths are, the things in which you are good at and your capabilities, abilities, hard work, interest and passion related to your chosen streak. And, the most important thing is you have to have a strong desire to succeed in affiliate marketing.

If you need me to clear your doubts, please drop me a message below and I’ll reply you at the soonest. Stay tune to my next article on how you get started your online business!

Career Networking Tips

network

As a working mum or a mumpreneur , one will feel overwhelmed and juggling between the responsibilities of work and family which is very common these days. Therefore, you may put networking in the last in your priority listing because you think that it is not worth to invest. However, to create a personal and professional network for your work and life success is essential. There are 3 parts of process where working mums and mumpreneurs can approach networking in different paradigm.

Building Relationships

Networking isn’t just about collecting business cards from people you think may help you. It’s about planting seeds and nurturing long-term relationships that mature over time. For working mums, this will helps you to develop your career to a higher level as people get know you in person and your character. Individuals tend to build trust and confidence on you and this connection is well worthy especially if you are a mumpreneur. As a mum, you may understand this process well because it calls upon the same nurturing skills you already use with your family.

Empower your actions

How many times have you attended networking events and seen others jabber on about themselves and frantically hand out dozens, if not hundreds, of their cards? This frenetic approach only makes them look weak. As a working mom, draw on that “Mummy” authority to engage in empowering, networking actions.

There are 3 simple and useful empowering actions:

 Give

Adopt a giving and sharing attitude. Every time you meet someone ask, “How can I help you?”  Always think, “Who could I connect them with to help them meet their goals?” It’s a natural principle:  The more you help others, the more others will help you.

 Ask – Be bold

Always think, “You never know what will happen” and “it’s worth a try.” If you meet a new contact and find you have an instant connection, don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Follow up

Getting introduced to the “right” people is important, but it’s what you do after the introduction that really counts. If you’ve felt a connection with a new contact, phone, email or send a thank you note within one or two days. Then, keep in touch periodically, even if just to say, “Hi, it’s been awhile…”

Efficient Use of Time

You may be thinking, “I’d like to stay connected with people, but I just don’t have the time.”  Here are 3 ways to efficiently find time to network:

Lunch Hours

I’ve historically used my lunch hour, a coveted ME time, to run errands, walk a mile or two or get my hair or nails done. Yet, many associations and groups schedule networking meetings during this time. So, I began to add networking lunches. It’s a great way to preserve early-morning and evening family hours by substituting networking lunches for breakfast meetings or evening mixers!

 “Coffee/lunch over the phone”

This is a more efficient way to meet. Plus, neither party has to invest in driving time. When you want to spend time with a colleague, try a relaxing “lunch over the phone” by scheduling a lunch appointment, packing a lunch that day and calling at the appointed time.

Schedule in advance

Mark your calendar to remind yourself to re-connect with a contact periodically. If you meet a new contact today, schedule the follow up call for two days later and plan a “check-in” email within 60 days.

Remember, the key to networking is building a relationship over time. By using the steps above you should succeed at establishing good relationships that equip you and your business and yet, don’t use hours and hours of your time. Famous social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram etc are able to connect with each other in a very convenient manner. Socialise through social media is another good idea to get in touch with your group of friends. If you are keen to explore more on social media networking, perhaps you may want to check out this interesting article which might draw your interest in social media : ‘Social Media –Purpose and Voice- The First of a Series’.

Working from home

woman-731894_640

Working from home is not a new concept. In recent years, flexible working arrangements are being adopted progressively due to the growing preference among parents with children to achieve work-life balance. More often than not, women would choose to give up their professional careers as they strive to devote more quality personal time with their families.

Now, losing one’s source of income can be quite overwhelming as it will impact the entire family, giving rise to monetary and non-monetary issues. Therefore, it is all the more crucial that we take into consideration, the 5Ds: Determination, Duration, Direction, Discipline and Delegation of duties; before we switch gears from being office bound to home based.

Determination

Being determined is important as it will be the key driver that will propel you to make that change happen!

Ask yourself this question and answer it as truthfully as possible: ‘Am I ready and well prepared for it?’

Having worked in the same organization for a number of years, chances are, you may have grown comfortable with your current role. Coupled with an attractive remuneration package and other perks, you may think twice (thrice, or many times over) before finally deciding to step out of your comfort zone.

My personal belief: Once you have set your mind to embark on the change, be mentally focused, stay persistent and continue to persevere; these are essential qualities to ensure that you reach that impending goal.

Duration

Now that you have decided to strike it out on your own, the next step is to give yourself a reasonable time frame to accomplish your ambitions!

Have a fruitful discussion with your spouse to communicate clearly what your intentions are and set out a workable plan, which is agreeable to both parties. Bearing in mind that you will not be generating any income during this period, your spouse will have to shoulder the responsibility as the sole breadwinner of the family. Likewise, you may also want to have an accelerated savings plan to help sustain you while you are no longer in full-time employment.

Direction

Subsequently, chart the path that you desire!

There are a myriad of ways, which you can work remotely. The possibilities are endless!

You can opt to become a freelancer by capitalizing on your skills and experience gained from previous employment. If you are an effective and skillful communicator, you can become a telemarketer. If you have adequate funding and are game to take on a new challenge, you can even set up a small business of your own. Regardless of what you choose to pursue, you may consider doing it online to maximize on cost saving and allow for wider reach to a global market.

It is noteworthy that both online and offline business ventures require tremendous amount of effort and time.

Discipline

Having a positive mindset and being constantly motivated is vital!

Write down a ‘to-do list’ daily and try your level best to cross out as many tasks as possible. Possessing a high degree of self-discipline is the essence in making things work.

Now that you can afford to take a break and spend more time with your family than ever before, it is equally critical to set your priorities right when it comes down to work. In order to strike a balance, organize and optimize your time to the fullest between family and work.

Delegation of duties

As you will be spending the bulk of your time at home, it is necessary to take a relook and reassign chores that are being performed currently, so that they do not pose a constraint to working from home. It is a misconception to equate being at home full-time with bearing the brunt of household chores and child care. You should seek the support and understanding from your family members to re-delegate duties that will suit everyone as after all, maintaining a happy household is a collective responsibility. However, as a last resort, if things do not go well as intended, you may contemplate to hire a domestic helper on a part-time basis.
